Fear and uncertainty have gripped a neighborhood in Benin City following a chilling midnight assault on the home of local businessman and musical artist, Mr. Emmanuel Bello Osagie.
The attack, believed to be a targeted assassination attempt, has sent shockwaves through the once-quiet community.
According to residents, armed men stormed Osagie’s residence late at night.
While the homeowner was away at the time of the breach, the attackers reportedly caused significant damage to the property.
Unconfirmed sources suggest the assault may be linked to local extremist elements who allegedly took offense at Osagie’s personal activities, viewing them as contradictory to their religious beliefs and detrimental to community values.
Though no fatalities were reported, the violence has left neighbors terrified. “It was terrifying,” one resident recalled, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
“The sound of the commotion broke the stillness of the night. Everyone stayed indoors, paralyzed by the fear of what might happen next,” another resident narrated.
The situation is further complicated by allegations regarding Osagie’s private life.

Reports suggest he may have been targeted due to an alleged same-sex relationship with a Muslim individual, a claim that carries severe social and legal weight in Nigeria.
Under current national law, same-sex relations remain criminalized and can result in up to 14 years of imprisonment if proven in court.
In the wake of the violence, Osagie’s whereabouts remain unknown, deepening concerns for his safety. His wife and children have since fled the family home, relocating to an undisclosed location out of fear for their lives.
Those close to the family describe them as deeply traumatized and uncertain of their future as they remain in hiding.
Local authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the identity of the attackers, but the incident underscores the escalating risks faced by individuals targeted over allegations of anti-community behavior in the region.
