Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, on Wednesday announced the acquisition of a 60 megawatt (MW) gas turbine, a strategic asset intended to deliver 24-hour electricity supply across the state.
The Governor hailed the project as a game-changer that will stimulate job creation, catalyze industrial growth, and drive economic transformation.
Governor Diri made the disclosure in a statewide broadcast marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary and Bayelsa’s 29th year of statehood, calling the development a major milestone in his administration’s quest for steady power.
“This will not only provide reliable electricity but also stimulate industrial activities and open new opportunities for our people,” Diri said.
Beyond power, the governor outlined other transformative projects, including the nine storey State Secretariat complex, which he said would enhance efficiency in government operations, and the ongoing construction of a 25,000 capacity stadium to boost sports and youth development.
He further highlighted improvements in the education sector, citing better NECO results and the establishment of science and vocational colleges in all local government areas.
Congratulating President Bola Tinubu and all Nigerians on Independence Day, Governor Diri urged Bayelsans to embrace unity, resilience, and hard work as the state builds on nearly three decades of growth.
He concluded: “Our collective diligence and unity remain the foundation of the brighter Bayelsa we seek to build.”
