The Bayelsa State Government has announced plans to deliver 24-hour uninterrupted electricity across the state by December 2025, a feat that would make it the first state in Nigeria to achieve such a milestone.

Special Adviser to the Governor, Evarada Abednego, disclosed that turbines for the project have already arrived in the country, with groundwork and supporting infrastructure nearing completion. He added that testing would begin by the end of November, paving the way for full implementation.

Abednego explained that the project forms part of broader efforts to create an enabling environment for investment, noting that development cannot thrive without peace, security, and reliable energy.

He emphasized that security remains a top priority for the administration, assuring that Bayelsa has become one of the safest states in the country. According to him, closer collaboration between security agencies and communities has fostered greater trust and responsibility.

Beyond infrastructure, the government is rolling out capacity-building programmes for youths to reduce overdependence on civil service jobs and diversify the state’s economy.

“Energy sufficiency is at the heart of this administration’s plan. This is not just about roads and bridges; it is about making Bayelsa the first state with 24-hour uninterrupted power supply,” Abednego said.

The government also highlighted ongoing partnerships with international firms, including a recent agreement with a Turkish company to establish solar panel and smart meter production facilities in Bayelsa. The initiative is expected to reduce reliance on imported products, boost internally generated revenue (IGR), and create new job opportunities.

Abednego assured that transparency remains central to the government’s policies, stressing that all agreements and initiatives are being executed openly.

The administration reiterated that energy sufficiency alongside investments in education, health, and security will remain the foundation of Bayelsa’s developmental agenda.

The announcement has already attracted global attention, with international companies indicating interest in expanding operations in the state.

Residents and businesses are now eagerly awaiting the completion of the project, which the government insists will accelerate economic growth and improve livelihoods across Bayelsa.
