Bayelsa State Government has kicked off a new recruitment exercise aimed at strengthening technical and vocational education in the state’s public school system.

With approval from Governor Douye Diri, the State’s Science and Technical Education Board (BSSTEB) is seeking qualified individuals to fill teaching and workshop technician roles across various government-owned science and technical colleges.

According to BSSTEB, the move forms part of broader efforts to bridge the skills gap and equip young Bayelsans with practical, industry-relevant knowledge.

Prospective applicants are required to apply through the BSSTEB recruitment portal at https://apply.bssteb.ng, before submitting physical copies of their credentials to the board’s headquarters in Yenagoa.

Eligible qualifications span a range of education-focused degrees, including B.Sc. Ed. in Science or Business Education, as well as NCE qualifications in Technical and Business Education. Candidates are also expected to provide documentation verifying their local government origin, age, and prior teaching or technical experience.

The application window opens on 15 April and closes on 22 April. Successful candidates will be invited to sit for a computer-based test (CBT) scheduled for 5–6 May, with oral interviews set to follow between 12 and 15 May.

Applicants have been cautioned to apply for only one position, as multiple entries will lead to disqualification. Late applications will also not be entertained.

The exercise was contained in a statement by the Secretary of the Recruitment Committee, Prof Akpoebi C Egumu, urging qualified individuals to seize the opportunity and contribute to the state’s educational advancement.
