...As VC urges students to uphold excellence, integrity
The University of Ibadan (UI) officially inducted 4,649 students into the 2024/2025 academic session during a grand matriculation ceremony held at the renowned International Conference Centre in Ibadan on Wednesday.
The event, marking a significant milestone for the new students, also saw the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, urge the matriculants to uphold the institution’s values of academic excellence, discipline, and moral integrity.
In his speech, Prof. Adebowale shared that 11,912 candidates had participated in the post-UTME examination after initially meeting the minimum 200-point requirement for consideration.
“Of these, 7,017 scored 50 percent and above. A total of 4,411 were admitted through the UTME route, while 238 gained admission via Direct Entry,” the Vice-Chancellor explained.
Prof. Adebowale encouraged the new students to embrace the challenges that lie ahead and fully utilise the opportunities available to them during their time at the university.
“Raise the bar of excellence, morality, and proper conduct, harness both the challenges and opportunities that lie in your path, and contribute to the institution’s longstanding legacy,” he urged.
The ceremony also featured an inspiring address from Mr. Olukayode Aiyenuyo, a UI alumnus and experienced industry expert. Aiyenuyo passionately addressed the new students, stressing the importance of making the most of their time at the university.
He further underscored the value of personal development and intentionality in one’s actions, stating, “What you choose to be is far more important than what you choose to do.”
Aiyenuyo reminded the new students of the vast potential they now possessed as part of the University of Ibadan community, encouraging them to harness their capabilities.
“Harness your enormous capacity, power, and potential. You are now equipped to achieve great things, don’t let the pressure deter you from realising your dreams,” he concluded.
