Tragedy bas struck the Sabon Gyero community in the Millennium City area of Chikun Local Government, Kaduna State, as bandits killed one resident and abducted seven others during a violent early morning raid on Monday.

Residents reported that the attackers invaded the community in large numbers, targeting a private residence where they seized three women and four children.

The gunmen further extended their assault to a local phone charging center, where they shot and killed a young man identified as Abdullahi Lawal, popularly known as Kurma.

Lawal, who was deaf and non-verbal, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Although he was rushed to a nearby medical facility, he succumbed to his injuries en route and has since been buried according to Islamic rites within the community.

Before fleeing the scene, the assailants reportedly looted the charging center, carting away numerous mobile phones and laptops.

While one of the abducted women was later released by the kidnappers due to health complications, six others remain in captivity.

Although the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement, the Commandant of the local Joint Task Force (JTF), Uwaisu Yunusa, confirmed that security personnel responded to the sounds of gunfire.

However, the task force was unable to intercept the bandits during the pursuit.

The attack has heightened fears among locals, who noted that the neighboring Dan Hono II community has faced similar trauma.

Situated in close proximity to Sabon Gyero, residents claim Dan Hono II has been targeted by bandits approximately ten times in recent months, highlighting a persistent security threat in the Millennium City axis.
