The Ijebu Ode Local Government has announced the temporary closure of all major markets within its jurisdiction as a mark of respect and honor to the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona CFR, who recently passed away.
According to a statement signed by Hon. Dare Alebiosu, the Executive Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, the closure is effective from Monday, July 14, 2025, and will affect the following markets Ita-Ale Market, Ita-Osu, Oke-Aje Market.
The closure is in line with the local government’s cultural traditions and aims to provide space for the sons and daughters of Ijebuland to mourn the loss of their beloved Kabiyesi.
Normal market activities will resume on a date to be communicated later, after consultation with the appropriate traditional authorities.
The local government urges all traders and residents to comply peacefully and respectfully with the directive, and prays that the soul of the late monarch rests in perfect peace.
