Atiku raises alarm over suspicious alert, leak of bank details

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) , Atiku Abubakar, has alerted security agencies and the general public over a suspicious credit alert received in one of his confidential bank accounts.

He warned that the incident points to a serious breach of financial privacy and personal security.

Speaking on Friday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku disclosed that an unidentified individual transferred money into his private account with the narration “Contribution Electioneering Campaign”.

Shaibu emphasized that neither Atiku nor his campaign team solicited, authorized, or had any prior knowledge of the payment.

Expressing deep concern over how his undisclosed financial records were obtained, Atiku raised fundamental questions regarding banking confidentiality.

“How did unknown persons obtain the confidential banking details of a private citizen?” he questioned, emphasizing that the account is strictly private and not in the public domain.

He cautioned that if the private financial information of a former Vice President can be accessed without authorization, the financial privacy of everyday citizens remains equally compromised.

“If the private banking information of a former Vice President and a leading presidential candidate can be accessed and deployed for reasons yet unknown then no Nigerian’s financial privacy is safe,” the statement noted.

Atiku further voiced suspicion that the leak may have involved individuals with internal or privileged access to sensitive banking data.

“Even more disturbing is the suspicion that such confidential information may have been obtained through persons with privileged access,” he added.

“If established, this would amount to a grave abuse of power capable of exposing the account holder to kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements.

“Putting security agencies on notice, the former Vice President described the occurrence as part of a pattern of suspicious moves ahead of the general elections, urging the public to disregard tactics designed to serve as political distractions.
