You remain my son — Uzodimma replies Davido

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has distanced himself from reports linking him to controversy surrounding the upcoming August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, reaffirming that internationally acclaimed music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, remains his son.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, August 6, 2026, by the Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, Uzodimma clarified his role in the Osun poll while debunking unauthorized comments made by an individual, Ambrose Nwogwugwu.

The clarification follows a recent media briefing where Davido, a nephew to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, made a public appeal to Uzodimma.

Citing his ties as an Imo State son-in-law, the music star had called on Uzodimma in his capacity as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Chairman of the APC Osun State Governorship Campaign Council to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the upcoming poll.

Following Davido’s briefing, Nwogwugwu publicly characterized the musician’s appeal as emotional blackmail, advising him instead to direct his message to Osun voters.

However, Governor Uzodimma explicitly disavowed Nwogwugwu’s comments, stating that he neither authorized him nor anyone else to respond to Davido on his behalf.

Uzodimma urged Davido, the people of Osun State, and the general public to completely disregard Nwogwugwu’s remarks, describing them as personal opinions that do not represent the Governor or the APC Campaign Council.

“Davido remains my son,” Uzodimma stated, assuring the artist of his unwavering respect for him and the people of Osun State.The Governor explained that his presence and participation in Osun State are strictly rooted in his party assignment as a committed leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) tasked with leading the campaign, and not as an electorate in the state.

“I am not an Osun voter,” Uzodimma emphasized, adding that it is standard democratic practice in Nigeria for party leaders to support their candidates across state lines.

He reiterated that the APC consistently advocates for peaceful, credible, free, and fair elections.

He noted that the party’s primary objective in Osun is to appeal to the conscience of the electorate to vote for the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

Uzodimma concluded by noting that setting the record straight became necessary to curb the activities of political mischief-makers who were seeking to misinterpret unauthorized personal opinions for political leverage ahead of the August 15 election.
