Army Chief appoints GOCs for newly established divisions

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has approved the appointment of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for the newly established divisions of the Nigerian Army.

The appointments, according to the Army, are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness, enhance command structure and improve the service’s capacity to respond to emerging security challenges across the country.

The newly appointed GOCs are expected to provide strategic leadership and oversee the operations of their respective formations while ensuring the effective implementation of the Nigerian Army’s mandate.

The Army stated that the appointments followed a review of its operational requirements and the need to reposition its formations for greater efficiency.

It added that the move aligns with the COAS’ vision of maintaining a professional, well-equipped and responsive Army capable of safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

The newly created divisions form part of the Nigerian Army’s expansion strategy aimed at improving troop deployment, reducing response time and strengthening security operations in various regions.

The Army urged the newly appointed commanders to uphold professionalism, discipline and commitment as they assume their new responsibilities.

The development comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to tackle insurgency, banditry, terrorism and other forms of criminality affecting parts of the country.
