…as Oyebamiji, Omisore attend screening
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated the screening and appeals committees for the upcoming Osun State governorship primary election, paving the way for aspirants to test their popularity ahead of the December 13, 2025 contest.
The inauguration was conducted at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja, by Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru (OON), on behalf of the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.
The Screening Committee is chaired by Barr. Obinna Uzoh, Ph.D, and includes Hon. Raphael Nnanna Igbokwe, Hon. Ifeoluwa Arowosoge, Chief Meg Duru, Princess Farida Odangi, and Hon. Ahmed Sani. Amb. Usman Baraye serves as Secretary.
The Screening Appeal Committee is led by Senator Tolu Odeniyi, with Attorney Smart Iheazo as Secretary. Both committees are expected to submit detailed reports that will guide the conduct of the primaries.
Nine governorship aspirants submitted their Expression of Interest and Nomination forms ahead of the deadline, including two former deputy governors — Senator Iyiola Omisore and Chief Benedict Olugboyega Alabi.
Other contestants include Alhaji Bola Oyebanmiji, Babatunde Oralusi, former Senator Babajide Omoworare, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, and Barrister Kunle Adegoke (SAN).
Speaking to journalists, several aspirants rejected the notion of a consensus candidate, warning the party against replicating the approach used in Ekiti State.
They urged the APC to allow a free and fair primary election so that the popularity of candidates can be properly tested.
Each aspirant paid a non-refundable fee of N50 million, covering N40 million for Nomination forms and N10 million for Expression of Interest forms. The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for August 2026.
Already Otunba Iyiola Omisore and Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji are amongst the aspirants that have been screened by the committee.
