British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, is reported to be stable following a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway earlier today that claimed the lives of two people.

In a joint statement signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information, Ogun State, and Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information, Lagos State.

The statement reads partly:
“Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos. Following comprehensive clinical assessments, doctors have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time.

“A full medical team has been assembled and will continue to monitor them closely. Anthony Joshua is conscious and has been in communication with his family. The Governments of Ogun and Lagos States are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that the affected persons receive the best possible medical care.”

The statement further confirmed that the vehicle conveying four passengers collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the fatalities. Authorities extended their deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

At the scene, emergency responders acted swiftly to evacuate the injured, highlighting the importance of rapid intervention on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways. Joshua, who remains conscious, is under continuous observation by a specialised medical team, with doctors confirming no immediate emergency procedures are necessary.

Officials have appealed to the public to respect the privacy of Joshua and his family as they continue to receive care, while authorities emphasised their commitment to providing the highest standard of medical attention.
