The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Saturday in Umuosoko Awomukwu, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State paid a condolence visit to Dr Monday Ubani, SAN on the burial of his mother, Mrs Nsomma Gladys Ubani.
The late mother of the Legal Adviser to the President of the Senate was aged 90 and was buried in the hometown of Awomukwu on Saturday.
Addressing Ubani and his family members in their country home, Akpabio said even though the deceased passed on at a ripe old age, life and death are in the hands of God.
“It is an axiomatic truth that the loss of a parent, at whatever age, leaves one with obvious emptiness owing, in part, to the finality of death as it deprives the bereaved of the companionship and parental counsel that the departed used to provide,” he said.
He urged the family to be consoled that their late mother lived a “long and worthy Christian life” which she deployed to the service of God and humanity. He prayed the Almighty God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
In his response Dr Ubani thanked the President of the Senate for honouring him with his esteemed presence at the burial of his mother.
He said since he was aware of the national assignment that Akpabio had embarked on same day, he had thought he would not be able to make it to the burial.
Dr Ubani recounted that his late mother was a woman of deep spiritual conviction and a prayer warrior with a strong sense of justice and frankness. He said she will be greatly missed.
He said the support of Senator Akpabio and others who have stood by him has given him the strength to bear the loss. “Thank you for your love for me and my family. This is one visit we will forever treasure,” he said.
Also present were the Senator representing Abia Central, Austin Akobundu, immediate past Senator who represented Abia Central, Darlington Nwokocha, member representing Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency, Dr Patrick Umoh among others.
