…Urges unity, grassroots mobilisation for Tinubu’s second term
…Leaders back President’s re-election, hail renewed hope development programme
Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, convened a strategic caucus meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders on Friday, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to consolidating the party’s political machinery and energising grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Akure, the high-level gathering brought together statutory caucus members, including serving and former public office holders from across the state. The agenda centred on replicating the structure of the national APC caucus at the state level and activating full-scale political coordination in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Governor Aiyedatiwa called on all political stakeholders and interest groups to rally under the umbrella of the party’s official structure, placing particular focus on securing a landslide victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
“Our strength lies in our unity, and all of us as leaders of the APC in the state must come together to build on the foundation already laid,” the Governor was quoted as saying.
The statement noted that the Governor encouraged the emergence of support groups but maintained that all mobilisation efforts must remain firmly under the coordination of the State Working Committee and the State Caucus.
“We don’t have any pending governorship election here in Ondo State. Therefore, we have to focus all our efforts on mobilising grassroots votes for the re-election of the President in 2027,” the statement continued.
“It is granted that the President will win the election. However, for us in the South West and Ondo State, the victory must be overwhelming.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa also used the occasion to recount the developmental milestones achieved by his administration since formally assuming office in February, and called for sustained collaboration among party stakeholders to build on existing progress.
The statement further disclosed that the National Economic Council is set to launch the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, an initiative aimed at enhancing local governance delivery and expanding development at the ward level.
Concluding the meeting, party leaders unanimously adopted the President’s re-election campaign as a key political priority and launched a new mobilisation network dubbed Ondo State for Tinubu 2027.
To drive the operations of the new caucus secretariat, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, and the APC State Secretary, Mrs Roseline Okafor, were appointed as coordinating officers.
Among those present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami; former deputy governors Alhaji Ali Olanusi and Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo; members of the National Assembly; former Speakers of the Ondo State House of Assembly; and serving and past lawmakers at both state and federal levels.
Hon. Derin Adesida, who represents Akure North/South Federal Constituency, described the meeting as a vital step in aligning leadership with the APC’s long-term vision. Veteran party figure Ambassador Sola Iji commended the Governor for steering the party with purpose and decisiveness.
Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde also weighed in, praising what he called the Governor’s “proactive foresight” and reaffirming his loyalty to the party’s continued growth and the state’s progress.
