Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday met with members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party commenced post-primary reconciliation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Akure, resolved to promote reconciliation, strengthen internal cohesion, and preserve the unity of the APC in Ondo State following the party’s recent primaries.
The leaders also unanimously affirmed Governor Aiyedatiwa as the APC leader in the state and pledged their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the meeting marked the first gathering of the Governor’s Advisory Council since the party primaries.
The Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Chief Pius Akinyelure, said the APC’s greatest strength remained its unity of purpose, stressing that disagreements arising from political contests were normal in a democracy and could be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, selflessness, and sacrifice.
He urged party leaders and government officials to work together to improve the party’s performance in the 2027 elections and surpass the state’s showing in the 2023 presidential election.
Akinyelure also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s developmental strides and assured him of the council’s continued support while calling on members to avoid division and bitterness.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Akinyelure said the leaders unanimously endorsed Governor Aiyedatiwa as the APC leader in Ondo State and expressed satisfaction with efforts to strengthen unity within the party.
The former Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Ajayi Boroffice, said the meeting resolved to support the governor and ensure that all party members recognize him as the leader of the APC in the state.
Boroffice added that the leaders agreed to intensify mobilization for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and would engage the party’s national leadership to communicate the resolutions reached at the meeting.
Also speaking, the APC South-West Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, said more than 30 party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to President Tinubu’s re-election and resolved that all support groups in Ondo State should operate under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
Kekemeke further appealed to the national leadership of the APC to ensure that key stakeholders in Ondo State are carried along in decisions affecting the party.
