Aiyedatiwa flags off 94 span flyover project in Akure

The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has flagged off the construction of a 2.38km, 94-span flyover along the Oyemekun–Oba Adesida Road corridor in Akure, as part of measures to tackle persistent traffic congestion and drive economic growth.

The Ondo State Government announced the strategic intervention on Monday, noting that the project aims to modernize urban transport infrastructure while easing bottlenecks along the state capital’s major commercial artery.

The road infrastructure project, stretching from Adegbola Junction to the St. Mathias/NNPC Filling Station in Alagbaka, is designed to improve vehicle mobility, enhance road safety, and reduce travel times across Akure.

Highlighting the necessity of the project, Commissioner for Infrastructure, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, noted that the busy corridor currently operates 50 percent above its original design capacity, making the flyover the most viable solution to avoid extensive property demolition.

The construction contract was awarded to Bulletin Construction Company, whose management assured the state government of quality execution and timely completion.

Commending the initiative, the Deji of Akure alongside other traditional leaders expressed support for the project, noting its potential to create a more investment-friendly environment under the administration’s broader urban renewal programme.
