Youths of Agulu community in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State have cautioned politicians against making derogatory remarks about their kinsman and former governor, Peter Obi, during campaigns in the area.
In a statement signed by Maduagwu Eric-Kenny and Chamberlain Egoh, Chairman and Secretary of the Agulu Youths respectively, the group condemned what they described as “unfounded attacks” from politicians desperate for votes.
The youths expressed concern that some politicians who had benefited from Obi’s generosity and support were now mocking and provoking him in their bid to woo voters. They described the act as unacceptable and disrespectful.
“Peter Obi’s name commands respect not only in Nigerian politics but also on the global stage. We will never allow anyone, regardless of position or influence, to diminish his image. Any politician visiting Agulu must refrain from making derogatory or disparaging remarks about our dear brother,” the statement read.
The group warned that any future attempt to malign Obi within Agulu would be met with “organised, peaceful but resolute resistance.” They stressed that, just as other communities guard their political elites with pride, the people of Agulu would continue to cherish and protect Obi as an identity that brings recognition across Nigeria and beyond.
