AfriGo–NIMC Partnership is driving inclusive growth through identity and innovation - MD

Dr. Ebehijie Momoh, Managing Director/CEO of AfriGOPay Financial Services Limited (AFSL) has said that through partnership with Nigeria Identity Management Commission (NIMC) they're driving inclusive growth through identity and innovation.

She made the remark at the National Day of Identity 2025 held in Abuja, emphasized the transformative potential of linking Nigeria’s identity infrastructure with financial and digital platforms.

Speaking during a plenary session titled “Digital Trade: Leveraging identity for Cross-Border Interoperability for Financial Inclusion”, Dr. Momoh highlighted how identity serves as the bedrock of trust, enabling secure and scalable trade across borders.

“If you’re trading across borders, you need to know who you’re dealing with. Identity provides that trust,” she said.

According to Dr. Momoh - “AfriGO, Nigeria’s domestic card scheme, is partnering with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to integrate identity verification into financial transactions. With over 123 million Nigerians enrolled for their National Identity Number (NIN), the initiative is set to drive financial inclusion and improve transparency in government interventions.”

“The partnership will provide extensive sectoral benefits across several sectors including:
Finance / Commerce: Empowers small businesses by facilitating unfettered cash flow through instant credit to merchants for payments made with AfriGO cards.

Underscoring the transport sector, she noted that through the partnership with Touch and Pay Ltd., AfriGO supports unified payments for transit and retail covering both online and offline transactions through the Cowry Card.

On Social Welfare, AfriGo ensures targeted delivery of government support while ensuring transparency and accountability, as well as access to government services.

Education and Youth Empowerment, Identity-linked cards can be used for student loans, scholarships, grants, and school-related payments.”

In closing, Dr. Momoh urged Nigerians to obtain their General Multipurpose Cards (with embedded identity enabled by NIMC) from participating banks in the coming weeks. Nigerians can however request their regular AfriGO payment cards from their banks nationwide.
