Zulum inaugurates integrated School for almajirai in Baga

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned a new 48-classroom integrated learning High Islamic College in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area.

The institution, inaugurated on Friday, is designed to provide "almajirai" with a comprehensive, second-chance education. Its curriculum blends modern formal education with traditional Islamic studies and vocational skills training.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Zulum described the initiative as a crucial step in his administration’s strategy to tackle illiteracy and the root causes of insecurity. 

The Governor stated, "We will introduce Mathematics and English so that the non-formal educational system shall be streamlined with the formal educational system." 

He added that the goal is to equip students with the necessary qualifications to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, enabling their admission into tertiary institutions.

Expressing his satisfaction with the high enrollment rate in Baga, Zulum announced that the government would provide a daily meal for students to ensure their retention. 

The Baga school is one of approximately 20 similar integrated schools established by the administration across the state. 

In a sepwrate development, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, confirmed that the government has supplied students with free uniforms, books, and other learning materials. 

The teaching staff consists of 23 community-based teachers, with the principal being a local resident who was promoted from the Local Education Authority.
