Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, a towering Yoruba elder statesman and leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has died at the age of 100.
His passing was confirmed in Akure on Tuesday by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in an official condolence statement issued on behalf of the state government.
Governor Aiyedatiwa paid glowing tribute to the centenarian, describing him as a revered patriarch whose lifetime was defined by profound wisdom, unyielding integrity, and selfless public service to Ondo State, the Yoruba nation, and Nigeria at large.
The governor noted that Fasoranti’s steadfast counsel and principled stance on social justice, equity, and good governance had left an indelible mark on the nation’s political landscape, adding that his stabilizing voice will be sorely missed.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Ondo State, I commiserate with the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom, and the entire state over this great loss,” Aiyedatiwa stated, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of the elder statesman’s soul.
Fasoranti’s death marks the end of an era for the leadership of Afenifere, closing a remarkable chapter of dedicated service to regional development and national democratic ideals.
