Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has hailed the passage of the Osun Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill as a game-changer for the state’s power sector, declaring it a decisive move to end years of consumer exploitation by electricity distribution companies.
The bill, passed by the Osun House of Assembly on Monday, aims to establish a state-level regulatory agency to oversee the electricity market, handle consumer complaints, and grant licenses to power generators. Adeleke said the commission will play a crucial role in ensuring transparency, fairness, and improved service delivery across the sector.
According to the governor, the new legislation will create a more investor-friendly environment, particularly for those interested in off-grid and renewable power projects. He noted that the bill will allow for a diversified and well-regulated energy mix to tackle Osun’s persistent power supply issues.
Adeleke stressed that the commission will hold electricity providers accountable and protect the interests of consumers, especially businesses that rely heavily on stable power. “The era of maltreatment of electricity users in Osun is coming to an end,” he said, adding that the regulatory framework will open new doors for economic growth and energy investment in the state.
