Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed security agencies to immediately investigate the suspected cult-related killing in Osogbo and ensure those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.

The governor, in a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, condemned the killing and the ensuing unrest, describing the incidents as unacceptable and capable of worsening the security situation in the state.

Adeleke urged security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further escalation, particularly in the aftermath of recent political violence in Osun.

“We receive with concern the recent suspected cult killing at Osogbo and we call on security agencies to enforce the law and go after the culprits. The killing and the subsequent rampage are condemnable,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.

He added that the incidents of cult violence in Osogbo must be curtailed immediately to avoid complicating the state’s already delicate security situation.

“The security agencies should investigate and apprehend those involved in this dastardly act,” he said.

The governor also dismissed allegations linking his administration to the incident, describing such claims as false and misleading.

According to the statement, neither the governor nor the state government had any involvement in the violence, urging members of the public to disregard what it described as fake news and propaganda.

The statement noted that the Accord Party was still mourning some of its members allegedly killed by political thugs in recent weeks, stressing that security agencies should identify and prosecute all those connected with the various acts of violence.

Adeleke appealed to residents of the state to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace and bring the perpetrators to justice.
