Adekunle Gold launches ‘5 Star Care’ to support sickle cell warriors

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Adekunle Gold, has launched a new health initiative tagged 5 Star Care to provide free medical support for individuals living with sickle cell disease in Lagos State.

The project, unveiled on Wednesday in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Sickle Cell Management Initiative, is aimed at offering free health insurance to 1,000 sickle cell patients as part of activities to mark the 2025 World Sickle Cell Day.

Adekunle Gold, who has openly shared his own struggles living with sickle cell anaemia, said the initiative was born out of a promise to support others facing the same condition.

“5 Star Care isn’t just an initiative, it’s a promise — a promise to ensure that sickle cell warriors are seen, heard, and cared for.

“We’re starting small by providing free health insurance to 1,000 people living with sickle cell in Lagos State. But this is only the beginning,”he said during the launch.

The singer has previously supported over 300 individuals through medical outreach and awarded scholarships to those living with the disease to pursue studies in music business.

Adekunle Gold said his experience growing up with sickle cell, including frequent pain crises and social isolation, motivated him to take tangible action.
