Why I haven’t invited VDM to my livestream — Peller

Social media influencer and TikTok livestreamer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has explained why he has not invited online critic Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to feature on his livestream.
Speaking during a joint session with TV host Frank Edoho, Peller said inviting VDM could serve as a distraction from his advocacy for justice and accountability in Nigeria.
Peller, who read a fan’s question during the livestream asking why he had not brought VDM on, responded that the activist was too focused on national issues to be interrupted.
“VDM is a good person. He is busy. He is helping Nigerians. I would love to livestream with VeryDarkMan but I don’t want to be a distraction to him, because he is really helping the whole Nigeria,” Peller said.
He cited VDM’s recent support for victims of killings in Benue State as an example of his national relevance.
The exchange drew attention from viewers, with many reacting to Frank Edoho’s body language during the segment. While some commended Peller for his thoughtful remarks, others focused on Edoho’s visible reaction when VDM was mentioned.
One viewer wrote, “Frank suddenly got uncomfortable at the mention of VDM and he wants to leave?”
Another commented, “Frank don vex… You say VDM is busy and can’t come, so Frank no get work?”
Others praised Peller’s diplomacy, describing him as a “smart guy” for avoiding controversy.
The video follows a trend of rising public attention on VeryDarkMan, whose online activism has attracted support and criticism across Nigeria.
Meanwhile, singer Portable recently advised VDM to prioritise his safety while continuing his advocacy, warning of the risks associated with speaking out on sensitive national matters.
