Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday commissioned the Imeko-Afon Township Road and ordered the immediate reconstruction of the Olorunda–Imeko Road.

The commissioning ceremony took place in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, where the governor unveiled the township road, originally constructed in 1959 by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Speaking at the event, Governor Abiodun revealed that the decision to reconstruct the Olorunda–Imeko Road was prompted by his personal experience traveling on it earlier that day.

Describing its condition as deplorable, he directed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to immediately prepare estimates and advertise the project for bidding.

“I told the commissioner that the project must go to the next Executive Council meeting and that construction should begin immediately,” Abiodun declared.

The governor highlighted his administration’s infrastructure strides, noting the construction of over 1,600 kilometres of roads across the state in the last six and a half years.

He also mentioned the government’s facilitation of the 100-kilometre Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto–Obelle Road using reinforced concrete.

Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring Yewaland receives its fair share of development, stating that his administration would continue to respond to criticism through performance.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Badagry–Sokoto Highway project, which passes through Imeko-Afon and is expected to ease the transportation of agricultural produce.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, noted that the Imeko-Afon Township Road would enhance trade with Abeokuta North Local Government Area and help address local flooding challenges.

The project received broad commendation from traditional and political leaders.

The Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, praised the administration’s renewed focus on Ogun West, while the Obaladi of Afon, Oba Babatunde Rasheed, lauded the governor for fixing a road abandoned by previous administrations.

Political representatives, including the Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government, Hon. Theophilus Oloyede, and federal lawmaker Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, described the project as a major boost to commerce and agriculture that would promote prosperity in the region.
