Thirty-eight worshippers abducted from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced on Sunday.

The victims, kidnapped during an attack on the church earlier in the week, were released after what the Governor described as days of “intense collaboration” among security agencies and relevant authorities.

Governor AbdulRazaq credited President Bola Tinubu’s “hands-on approach” for the successful rescue operation, revealing that the President cancelled his scheduled attendance at the G20 Summit in South Africa to focus on the security crises in Kwara and Kebbi States.

According to the Governor, President Tinubu ordered expanded security deployments to the affected areas, a directive executed by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force, which recently dispatched four additional tactical teams to Kwara.

He expressed gratitude to the security agencies, community leaders, religious organisations, and residents of Kwara State for their support during the rescue effort.

It was earlier reported that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) condemned the violent attack on CAC Eruku, calling it “heartbreaking and sad.”
