300 residents lay claim to being victims of Osun election violence

…seek relief from government committee

The Osun State Election Violence Victims Relief Committee has received 300 claims from victims of election-related violence as it begins reviewing applications submitted by persons affected by the unrest surrounding the August 15 governorship election.

Governor Ademola Adeleke inaugurated a 10-man committee to verify claims and oversee the disbursement of the N500 million Election Violence Victims Relief Endowment Fund provided by the state government.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly and Chairman of the committee, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, noted that the exercise is necessary to ensure every claim is thoroughly examined and that assistance reaches those who genuinely suffered losses.

He assured all claimants that the committee will conduct the exercise with fairness, transparency, and compassion, adding that members will listen to every claimant and objectively assess the evidence presented to ensure the process is not compromised.

According to him, “Today marks a significant step in our effort to identify, verify, and provide relief to victims of the recent election violence in Osun State. The commencement of the verification and cross-examination process is necessary to ensure that every claim is carefully examined and that assistance reaches those who genuinely suffered losses.”

The Speaker further assured all the claimants that the committee will conduct the exercise with fairness, transparency, and compassion.

“We will listen to every claimant and objectively assess the evidence presented, while ensuring that the process is not compromised.”

“I therefore appeal to all claimants to cooperate fully with the committee and provide accurate information alongside relevant supporting documents.”

“On behalf of the committee, I assure all genuine victims that their cases will receive the attention they deserve. We shall leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the relief process is credible, just, and meaningful,” the Speaker said.
