2027: Be wary of politicians making unrealistic promises – APC candidate

Dr Erico Ameh, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kogi East Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, has cautioned voters against politicians making unrealistic promises ahead of the polls.

He gave the caution in an interview with the news reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, on the sideline of a ceremony to mark his emergence as National Adviser to the Senior Special Assistants Forum of the North-Central States.

Ameh urged voters to scrutinise campaign promises and assess them against what governments had already achieved before making their choices.

He said that voters should be wary of promises such as the return of fuel subsidy which he claimed benefited only a few, saying that benefits of the current regime was on the way.

According to him, promises to reverse government policies without presenting clear alternatives and evidence of how such policies would improve their lives is a red flag.

“Some candidates have come up with a lot of promises, which cannot work, some which we have tried in Nigeria before and is not working for us.

“Somebody came up to promise us that he is going to bring back fuel subsidy; something we have tried and did not work for us.

“President Bola Tinubu understands the feelings of those at the grassroots and he is not ready to succumb to the highly placed people and that was why he removed fuel subsidy.

“We can see a lot of ongoing projects everywhere in Nigeria and you see our governors are paying salaries, they are doing a lot of projects in their states,” he said.

The candidate urged voters to focus on tangible development projects and policies capable of improving infrastructure, the economy and living conditions.

Ameh pledged quality representation and attraction of infrastructure development for the Kogi East Senatorial District if elected senator in the 2027.

Earlier, the President of the forum, Prince Ezikiel Oruma said that the forum is a strategic bridge between government and the people.

He said it provides policy support drives grassroots mobilisation and ensures policies and programmes of government translate into tangible benefits for citizens across the North-Central zone.

“Beyond our states, we have taken on a strategic responsibility as a forum to ensure the continuity of the administration of President Tinubu beyond 2027.

“This is not about politics alone. It is about patriotism and continuity of good governance.

“Mr President’s bold decision to remove fuel subsidy has liberated resources for public use.

“Today, we are seeing those resources at work in our states, more funds are going to our governors and that has translated into developmental strides we can all see,” he said.

Oruma reaffirmed the commitment of the forum to mobilise support for President Tinubu and other candidates of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
