The Niger branch of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has endorsed the re-election of Rep. Sa’idu Abdullahi (APC-Niger) in the 2027 general elections.
The association announced the endorsement in Abuja on Thursday while presenting the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form to the lawmaker representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The farmers, who had earlier endorsed Gov. Umar Bago of Niger, said that the gesture was in appreciation of the enormous attention and contributions to agro development in the state by the governor and the lawmaker.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chairman of AFAN in Niger, Mr Muhammed Usman, described the lawmaker as an asset to farmers in the state.
He noted that Abdusllahi embarked in numerous programmes to make farming easy, created an environment for women in farming and single-handedly constructed irrigation facility in Badegi.
“As for us, we are looking at track records. We are looking at what is being done and as far as agriculture is concerned, we are impressed.
“We can see a lot of transformation and re-engineering of agricultural activities in Niger, propelled by our farmer-governor, ably assisted by Rep. Abdullahi.
“So, this is a payback period; they have done their best for us. We have seen the deployment of necessary equipment and farm inputs, ranging from fertiliser to tractors, and improved yield for our farmers, which has generated a lot of employment.
“So we are proud today and that’s why all the farmers in the state decided to buy this form for his third term election.
“We want him to continue for the good work he has been doing; we expect that when he is re-elected , he will become the next Speaker of the House of Representatives,” he said.
Responding, Abdullahi appreciated the farmers for the gesture and assured them of his continued support to maximise the vast agricultural potential of Niger, as projected by the governor.
“I think there is nothing that can be more gratifying to the mind than what I have seen here today.
“We are like ambassadors, messengers of the people. They have sent us here to come and represent them. We are going all out to ensure that we do not disappoint them.
“It is their confidence in us that brought us here. We have tried to make the most of the privilege of representing them here.
“The government has embarked on very necessary reforms; we are interested in seeing the results of the reforms trickling down to the grassroots.
“So we are working together with major stakeholders to ensure that the right thing is done for the betterment of our people,” he said
