Peter Obi has heavily criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he calls a perilous absence of leadership, claiming the President spent 196 days outside Nigeria in 2025 while the country sinks deeper into poverty and insecurity.

In a fierce post on X (formerly Twitter), Obi questioned the whereabouts of the President, noting that Nigerians have not heard directly from their leader since December 2025.

Obi alleges Tinubu spent more time abroad than at home in 2025, opting for a holiday in Europe while Nigerians faced a bleak New Year.

He condemned the President’s silence regarding recent U.S. military strikes on Nigerian soil, stating that Nigerians shouldn’t have to learn about national security issues from foreign media.

Obi highlighted that Nigeria is approaching a milestone of 140 million people in extreme poverty and over 80 million unemployed youths.

“You Cannot Run Nigeria Like a Private Club”

Obi argued that the Presidency has resorted to “propaganda” by aides instead of direct engagement.

He also challenged the President to hold direct media briefings to explain the state of the nation.

“You cannot run Nigeria like a personal business or a private club. Progress is impossible without unity… When leadership withdraws, unity falters, and the fabric of our society unravels. Silence in the face of crisis is the loudest form of failure,” Obi warned.
