The push for the mandatory real-time transmission of results has emerged as a critical litmus test for legislative commitment to democratic integrity. This debate reached a fever pitch during plenary sessions where the National Assembly faced intense public pressure to eliminate manual collation loopholes that have historically served as a breeding ground for manipulation.
While the broader chamber often remained divided on the technical readiness of the nation’s infrastructure, a resolute group of lawmakers stood apart.
Below are the 15 Nigerian senators who voted in support of mandatory real-time electronic transmission of polling-unit results, opposing the clause that allows manual transmission in cases of network failure:
- Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP – Kogi Central)
- Enyinnaya Abaribe (ADC – Abia South)
- Abdul Ningi (PDP – Bauchi Central)
- Aminu Tambuwal (PDP – Sokoto South)
- Ireti Kingibe (ADC – FCT)
- Seriake Dickson (PDP – Bayelsa West)
- Onawo Ogwoshi (ADC – Nasarawa South)
- Tony Nwoye (ADC – Anambra North)
- Victor Umeh (ADC – Anambra Central)
- Ibrahim Dankwambo (PDP – Gombe Central)
- Austin Akobundu (PDP – Abia Central)
- Khalid Mustapha (PDP – Kaduna North)
- Sikayo Yaro (PDP – Gombe South)
- Emmanuel Nwachukwu (APGA – Anambra South)
- Peter Jiya (PDP – Niger South)
The above lawmakers voted in favour of making electronic transmission of results compulsory during elections.
