The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiriss lacking principles over his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Party described the move as a betrayal of political principles and a display of unrestrained cowardice in a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong on Friday.
The party further noted that while it was aware of the official announcement made via a broadcast in Adamawa State, the move marks the end of a long period of speculation and repeated denials by the Governor.
According to the opposition party, the Governor had consistently issued rebuttals regarding his exit, some as recently as last week following a presidential visit to Adamawa.
The PDP maintained that by finally aligning with the ruling party, Fintiri has confirmed rumors he previously dismissed as false.
“For a person to abandon a platform that provided political coverage for him across many election cycles at the sight of slight discomfort is unambiguously an exhibition of unrestrained cowardice, and not a mark of a principled politician,” the statement read.
The PDP acknowledged that while Fintiri has the legal right to change parties, the decision contradicts the “
moral and political principles necessary for a healthy multi-party democracy.
The party dismissed the Governor’s justification that the move was in the
developmental interest of his state as a pretext for abandoning the party that brought him to power.
Addressing its supporters in Adamawa, the PDP leadership urged members to accept the sad reality with grace.
The party expressed optimism about its future, stating that the current rebirth movement within the PDP would eventually reposition it as a winning force once again.
The statement concluded with a somber warning to the Governor, reminding him that history and posterity remain the ultimate judges of human conduct.
