Yobe deputy governor lauds SIEC for conducting peaceful LG elections

The Yobe Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, has commended the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) for conducting a peaceful local government elections.

Gubana made the commendation on Saturday, while casting his vote at his 008 polling unit, Dogon kuka Ward, in Fune local Government Area.

According to him, the large turnout of voters in and around the local government area is satisfactory.

“This is an indication that democracy has come to stay, and is accepted as the best form of government.

“Voter education and sensitisation across the state would be given much emphasis, going forward, so as to foster a more robust democratic process and participation,” he said.

The deputy governor was accompanied by the Special Adviser to Gov. Mai Mala Buni on security matters, retired Brig.- Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam, the local government All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Yusuf Sinkin, among others.

The newsmen reported that the elections are largely peaceful across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Dr Ibrahim Yabani, the SIEC Chairman, had earlier told journalists that adequate sensitive and non-sensitive materials were dispatched to polling units across the 178 political wards in the state.

He, however, said some units identified in flashpoints where clustered and relocated to safe areas so that eligible voters could exercise their franchise.
