A 40-year-old Nigerian woman, Clara Nnenna Chioke, has fled to the United States after her family was killed in a bandit attack and her father was arrested amidst the unrest caused by the Biafra independence agitation in southeastern Nigeria
She was born and raised in Enugu State, but later relocated to Imo State with her family.
Tragedy struck when fully armed bandits invaded their community, killing many people, burning down houses, and carting away valuables.
Chioke’s family was among those affected, with her mother killed and her father taken away by the bandits. She escaped death and managed to flee to a safe location with the help of a woman named Amaka. She eventually escaped Nigeria, seeking refuge in the US.
Recall that the unrest caused by the Biafra independence agitation has led to a wave of arrests, killings, and destruction of property in southeastern Nigeria. Chioke’s father was among those arrested, and her mother was killed in the violence.
Nigeria has been grappling with rising insecurity, with a bloody week claiming the lives of no fewer than 304 persons within four days.
The violence has spread across various parts of the country, including Enugu State, where the Chioke family was killed.
Meanwhile, the police are actively investigating the incident and have vowed to ensure justice is served.
