Wike touts PDP convention as sign of revival

Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike, said Sunday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention would signal the party’s readiness to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of future elections.

Wike made the remarks after inspecting the convention venue at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, where more than 2,000 delegates from across the country are expected to gather.

The former Rivers State governor said the scale and organisation of the event demonstrated that the PDP remained “vibrant” despite internal challenges and was poised for a political resurgence.

“For me, this is a job well done… It will be a testimony that indeed the PDP has come back,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with preparations, noting that arrangements had been concluded to ensure a smooth exercise, and urged delegates to maintain unity and discipline throughout the convention.

Wike also assured that adequate security measures had been put in place, warning that any attempt to disrupt the process would be swiftly addressed by security agencies.

“We will have a hitch-free convention. We have taken note of those who may want to cause confusion,” he said.

The convention comes as the PDP seeks to overcome internal divisions and reassert itself as Nigeria’s main opposition party ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
