Why I didn’t win Big Brother Naija for second time – Mercy Eke

Published

on

Big Brother Naija reality star, Mercy Eke has given reasons why she did not win the show for the second time.

NEWSMEN   recalls that Eke won the ‘Pepper Dem’ season in 2019 but lost the all-star edition to 22-year-old Ilebaye in 2023, when she finished as the runner-up.

However, speaking in a recent episode of Celebrity Quickies posted on comedian AY’s YouTube page, Eke said she didn’t win the show for the second round because people “were allergic to winners.”

She said, “The first time, I went into the Big Brother House, it was all cute, lovely people. I played the game and I won the show. And I thought it was all cute, then I went back for the second time, and I found out that people were allergic to winners.

“They were like, ‘She had that, she can’t have it again. She has this, she can’t have it again.’ That’s why I did not win for the second time because they are allergic to winners. They were like, ‘She is already rich, give others a chance.’

“This second experience, I loved it. I will not even take anything away from it because it made me see people for who they truly are. It can only be God’s doing because without this second experience I would not know a lot of things. I didn’t know that it is a crime to want to win again. But anyways, I am still a winner.”

Yemi Alade slams colleagues for downplaying Afrobeats genre

Published

Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has berated her colleagues who downplay the Afrobeats genre.

She said that while it is not wrong for artists to denounce Afrobeats especially if they feel it doesn’t define their art, it is hypocrisy for them to downplay the genre, adding that it has contributed to every Nigerian artist’s development.

On her X handle, the ‘Johnny’ crooner wrote: “I don’t see anything wrong in informing your listeners of the genre of music an artist makes especially when you feel it doesn’t define your art.

“Just Announce your Genre in peace. Downplaying the role Afrobeats has played in every artist’s development is hypocrisy.”

Alade’s social media outburst is coming against the backdrop of some Nigerian singers including Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy denouncing the Afrobeats genre.

They all claimed that they ditched the genre because all African artists boxed into Afrobeats regardless of their musical styles.

I didn’t make money from popular single Oyinmo – Young Du bombs Carter Efe

Published

on

Nigerian singer, Oluwabamishe Abioro, popularly known as Young Duu, has finally broken silence on his beef with popular skit maker, Efe Oderhohwo, aka Carter Efe.

Recall that Young Du had accused Efe of cheating him after their music collaboration that produced his popular song titled ‘Oyinmo’.

However, Efe, in an interview with Saturday Beats, insisted that he did not have any issues with the singer.

He claimed that he had reached out to the singer and that they were good.

Efe said, “Young Duu and I do not have any issues. I reached out to him and asked him why he was spoiling (tarnishing) my image, but he said he wasn’t doing so. Rather, it was all part of promoting our song, ‘Oyinmo’.

“I was paid for the show where I performed the song alone. I performed ‘Machala’, and when ‘Oyinmo’ was played, I initially did not want to perform it, but I did it as a way of promoting the song.”

But in a recent interview with HipTV, Young Duu shed more light on the matter.

According to him, he did not make a dime from the now-popular song with Carter Efe.

He said, “After dropping the song, I saw that Olamide posted about it, and I was happy. In fact, I received a lot of calls asking to be signed to their label. I felt like going with Carter Efe, and that was why when he called me for the collaboration, I responded.

“After recording and shooting the video for the song, I did not hear from him again. A few months passed before I reached out to him. He asked for my account number, claiming he would give me N500,000. To date, he has not given me the money, and he has not taken me to any show.”

He added that the reasons he raised alarm on social media were because of how Efe treated him with disdain and how the public thought he was now rich but selfish.

“The reason I raised alarm on the matter online is that everyone thinks I’m a millionaire. Whenever I reached out to Carter, how he responded was like I’m a nobody. That was why I raised the alarm online on the matter because I felt like a fool. People would not understand. They would be thinking that I’m a stingy person.

He further disclosed that contrary to popular belief, he had no bad feelings towards Carter but just needed to set the records straight, which was why he went online.

“Before I went online, I confided in a few people, and I was advised to do so. It was not about having any bad feelings towards him.”

Asked why he preferred Carter to Portable, he said, “I can only deal with Carter Efe, and not Portable because he has more connections than portable. It’s not that portable doesn’t have connections, too, but I prefer Carter.”

Speaking further, he cleared the air on the misconception making the rounds that he was signed to Portable’s record label.

He stated, “Portable did not sign me. He said he would try to help me by putting my face out there. That’s what he did for me, not that he signed me. We do not have any signed agreement.”
