The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) has trained 68 vocational instructors to strengthen teaching quality and enhance service delivery across its skills acquisition centres.
The training, conducted on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, is part of a wider strategy aimed at improving the effectiveness of vocational instruction and equipping facilitators with up-to-date knowledge in key technical areas.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Bolaji Dada, said the initiative supports the state’s broader agenda for innovation and excellence in vocational training, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision. She was represented at the event by the Director of the Skill Acquisition Development Unit, Mrs Adejoke Oshodi-Olasunkanmi.
According to her, the training focused on core vocational sectors including catering, hairdressing and cosmetology, and computer studies.
“This programme marks a significant advancement in our drive to ensure high standards in vocational education across all WAPA Skill Acquisition Centres,” Dada said.
She noted that the initiative would not only enhance the quality of instruction but also encourage continuous innovation in the delivery of vocational training to residents, particularly women and economically vulnerable groups.
“When instructors improve, the entire training ecosystem benefits. Learners become more skilled, more employable, and more prepared to venture into entrepreneurship,” she added.
Dada encouraged the participants to approach the training with commitment, describing the role of vocational educators as pivotal to human capital development.
She reiterated the state government’s pledge to continue investing in human capacity and maintaining vocational education as a key pathway to self-sufficiency and economic productivity in Lagos.
