Wale Edun receives IMF Executive Director, strengthens regional economic ties

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, on March 27, 2026, received the Executive Director for the IMF Africa Group III (ECOWAS) Constituency, Dr Quattara Wautabouna, during a courtesy visit in Abuja.

The meeting focused on strengthening regional economic coordination and deepening collaboration among member states within the ECOWAS constituency.

During the engagement, Mr Edun emphasised the importance of sustained dialogue and cooperation in addressing shared economic challenges across the region. He noted that closer collaboration among ECOWAS countries would enhance economic stability and drive inclusive growth.

The minister also highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to working with international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support policy reforms and promote macroeconomic stability.

According to him, regional partnerships remain critical in navigating global economic uncertainties and ensuring resilience among West African economies.

Dr Wautabouna, in his remarks, reaffirmed the IMF’s commitment to supporting member countries within the constituency, particularly in areas of economic reform, fiscal sustainability and development financing.

The visit underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between Nigeria and the IMF, while advancing broader regional cooperation aimed at achieving sustainable economic growth across ECOWAS member states.
