Voltage grid affected Lagos only, not national grid — NISO

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO)has disclosed that a voltage instability incident in the Lagos region didn’t affect the national grid.

According to a statements from NISO management, it disputed recent claims by the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) alleging a collapse of the national grid.

NISO clarified that the system disturbance was promptly detected and aggressively managed at its source. 

“Through timely operational interventions and coordinated efforts by the System Operator, the incident was successfully isolated, completely halting its propagation to the rest of the National Grid,” it explained

While initial external characterizations pointed toward a broader systemic failure, NISO explained that the operational reality was a strictly regional challenge. 

“Emergency protection systems and deliberate operator actions were immediately activated to safeguard the wider network’s integrity. Thanks to these rapid-response mechanisms, normal power operations within the affected Lagos areas were progressively restored within the shortest possible time, ensuring the national grid remained stable and secure,” the statement noted.
