Respected Nigerian diplomat, broadcaster, and corporate leader, Dr Christopher Kolade, has passed away at the age of 92.

Sources close to the family confirmed the news on Thursday, though details surrounding his death were still sketchy as at press time.

Dr Kolade, born on December 28, 1932, in Erin-Oke, Osun State, was a man whose name became synonymous with integrity and excellence in both public service and corporate leadership.

He began his career as a broadcaster and rose to become the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), where he was widely admired for his professionalism and commitment to ethical standards in journalism.

Following his distinguished service in broadcasting, Kolade ventured into the corporate world, serving as Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc and taking on leadership roles in the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

In 2002, he was appointed Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, a position he held until 2007, where he represented the country with dignity and diplomacy.

Beyond his public service, Dr Kolade remained deeply involved in education and moral leadership.

He was a respected lecturer at the Lagos Business School, where he mentored countless young professionals, and later founded the Christopher Kolade Foundation, an organisation dedicated to promoting ethical values and leadership among young Nigerians.

Dr Kolade was often described as “the conscience of corporate Nigeria,” known for his measured voice, integrity, and unyielding belief that leadership should be rooted in service and character.

He received numerous awards and honours for his contribution to broadcasting, corporate governance, and national development, and remained active in public discourse even in retirement.

Tributes have begun pouring in from across Nigeria’s political, business, and media circles, celebrating his life as one devoted to principle, education, and the betterment of society.
