Vandalism: TCN strengthens collaboration with NSCDC, NSA

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has strengthened its collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to curb the vandalism and sabotage of the Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

This development follows a high-level strategic meeting hosted on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the TCN corporate headquarters in Abuja.

The discussion focused on deepening inter-agency intelligence sharing, coordinating active field operations, and deploying proactive countermeasures to protect transmission facilities nationwide.

The security push comes on the heels of recent revelations that the grid continues to suffer aggressive economic sabotage, including a recent incident in the Lambata axis of Niger State where the destruction of a critical 132kV transmission line forced TCN to incur over ₦32 million in conductor replacement costs alone.

Speaking on the collective resolve of the security architecture, the stakeholders emphasized that power installations are core pillars of national security and economic stability, making attacks on them a capital offense against the state.

Under the new operational framework, the NSCDC which holds the primary statutory mandate for protecting critical national infrastructure will work closely with the NSA’s office to provide real-time intelligence and rapid military-backed responses to vulnerable transmission corridors.

The collaborative framework will also focus on profiling and raiding illegal scrap metal markets, which security agencies have identified as primary buyers of stolen high-tension conductors and tower components.

TCN management expressed optimism that the unified front will decisively neutralize syndicates behind grid disruptions, guarantee a more stable electricity supply, and protect the massive state resources being invested in the power sector.
