Uzodimma, Buni to lead APC national convention

In a strategic consolidation of its executive leadership, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has tapped a trio of influential stakeholders to spearhead the preparations for its 2026 National Convention.

The National Working Committee (NWC) announced on Monday that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will preside over the newly formed 73-member National Convention Central Coordination Committee, signaling a governors-first approach to the party’s upcoming transition.

Uzodimma, who currently leads the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), is joined at the top by Kwara State Governor and Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who will serve as Vice Chairman. Completing the high-powered leadership team is Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, who brings his extensive experience in party administration to the role of Committee Secretary.

By placing the heads of both the PGF and the NGF in charge, the APC leadership appears to be prioritizing stability and state-level alignment ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.

This move centralizes the convention’s planning under veteran hands known for navigating complex party internal dynamics.

The 73-member committee is now tasked with the massive logistical and political undertaking of coordinating the party’s primary governing body in Abuja.
