The Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Speaking to journalists at Government House, Owerri, on Thursday, Uzodimma described the political turmoil in Rivers as having escalated into a national security concern.

He commended the president’s decision to impose emergency rule in the state, describing it as a prudent step in preventing further instability.

He also underscored the possible repercussions of inaction, warning that had the president not intervened, the situation could have deteriorated into violence and disorder.

Uzodimma stated: “We have all observed the rising tensions in the state, fuelled by the threat of impeachment against the governor and the refusal of some political figures to heed sensible advice.

“Given that Rivers State is pivotal to Nigeria’s economic stability, the crisis swiftly became a matter of national security.

“You may have heard of pipeline explosions and bombings, occurring at a time when Nigeria is striving to boost crude oil production, strengthen the currency, and revive the economy.

“Consider what could have happened if the impeachment had gone ahead, triggering a chain of actions and reactions leading to chaos and unrest,” he remarked.

The governor urged all parties involved in the crisis to exercise caution, demonstrate responsibility, and embrace rational dialogue to achieve a lasting resolution.

He further commended the National Assembly’s endorsement of Tinubu’s decision, asserting that it aligns with the country’s broader interests.

Uzodimma also expressed confidence in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the appointed Sole Administrator, describing him as a competent leader who will operate within legal frameworks to restore stability in Rivers State.

The Progressives Governors’ Forum, he affirmed, stands firmly behind President Tinubu’s efforts to maintain peace and security nationwide.

Recall Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Ordu, and members of the state Assembly, citing the prolonged political crisis as justification for his decision.
