UNIOSUN gets $60,000 grants to boost research capacity

The Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has received a 60,000 dollars international research grant to strengthen mosquito surveillance and research activities. 

The ​‌‌⁠⁠⁠‍⁠⁠‌⁠⁠​‍‍‍​⁠‌​University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ademola Adesoji, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Osogbo

Adesoji said the grant was awarded by the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit 3 (NAMRU-3) to Dr Dapo Adeogun of the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology with support from other vector experts in the department.

He said that the project would generate scientific data to support efforts to strengthen surveillance and control of vector-borne diseases in Nigeria.

According to him,the development will provide further opportunities for the university’s researchers to contribute to public health research while strengthening its collaboration with international research institutions.

Reacting, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Prof. Clement Adebooye, congratulated Mr Adeogun and members of the research team on securing the grant.

Adebooye also commended the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology for its commitment to impactful research.

He said the grant would enhance the university’s research profile and visibility, while encouraging researchers to pursue more competitive funding opportunities locally and internationally.

The vice chancellor added that continued success in securing external research funding would contribute to the university’s development as a research-driven institution.

Adebooye, however, said the latest award  had added to UNIOSUN’s growing portfolio of externally funded research projects aimed at addressing public health and other societal issues.
