UNICEF Distributes Relief Materials to Kwara Community Following Security Crisis

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to stabilizing areas affected by insecurity as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) stepped in to provide essential relief materials to the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade, spoke during the weekend handover of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) intervention kits to the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA).

The Governor stated that the state is working around the clock to ensure that violent incidents, such as the recent attack on Woro, are not repeated.

He pointed to the swift deployment of security architecture to the region as evidence of the government's proactive stance against the threat of insecurity.

The Governor commended UNICEF for its timely support, noting that the administration’s open-door policy has fostered an environment where international partners can effectively contribute to local development.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Christiana Omolola Asonibare, and the General Manager of RUWASSA, Olorunfemi Oladipo, echoed these sentiments.

They praised the intervention as a vital source of relief for the Woro residents and requested that UNICEF maintain this momentum to help complement the state government’s ongoing efforts.

Dr. Gerida Birukila, the Chief of the UNICEF Field Office, confirmed that the organization remains steadfast in its mandate to provide humanitarian assistance across Nigeria.

She announced that 400 kits were delivered to Woro over the weekend, with an additional 1,000 kits scheduled to arrive in the coming days.

Dr. Birukila also issued an appeal for increased state government support for the displaced and affected residents.

She further called for volunteers from across Kwara State to partner with UNICEF, aiming to streamline the delivery of similar interventions to other communities in need.
