UAE to host World Bank/IMF annual meeting

The United Arab Emirates has been selected to host the 2029 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).

Following an announcement on April 10, 2026, the global financial summit is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi.

This decision marks a significant milestone for the UAE, as it prepares to welcome finance ministers, central bank governors, and development experts from around the world.

The Annual Meetings serve as a critical platform for discussing global economic stability, poverty reduction, and international financial cooperation.

Top officials from both the IMF and the World Bank expressed their appreciation to the UAE government for its offer to host the event.

They noted that Abu Dhabi’s modern infrastructure and strategic location make it an ideal venue for facilitating high-level dialogue on the world’s most pressing economic challenges.

Historically, these meetings are held for two consecutive years at the IMF and World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C., every three years, with a different member country hosting the event in the third year.

The selection of the UAE highlights the region's increasing influence in the global financial landscape. Over the coming years, both institutions will work closely with Emirati authorities to coordinate the logistics and agenda for the 2029 gathering.
