Two men jailed 18 months for stealing cables worth N2.3m

A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced two men, Justin Amos and Gideon Sylvester, to 18 months imprisonment each for stealing armoured cables worth N2.3m.
The convicts Amos, 24 and Sylvester, 26, of no fixed addresses, were arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and stealing.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
Emmanuel, however gave the convicts an option of N50,000 fine each and warned them to desist from committing crime.
He said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, had told the court that the convicts were arrested by a team of policemen attached to Barnawa, Kaduna on July 26.
Leo said that the convicts were arrested with armoured cables worth N2.3m on a motorcycle.
He said when the convicts were questioned, they could not give satisfactory explanation of the cables in their possession.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
