Two injured, as truck, commercial bus collide

Two persons were injured after a commercial bus collided with an articulated truck and somersaulted along the Motorway inward Toll-Gate corridor in the Ogudu-Alapere area of Lagos on Saturday.
The crash, which caused heavy traffic congestion on the busy route, involved a 12-tyre DAF truck and a commercial Volkswagen T4 bus with registration number AA 60 YF.
Preliminary reports indicated that the bus overturned following the impact of the collision, trapping the driver and a passenger inside the wreckage.
According to reports, emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), arrived at the scene and rescued the victims from the mangled vehicle with the injured occupants subsequently handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for medical attention.
However, the accident also obstructed traffic flow along the corridor, forcing traffic officials to divert vehicles while efforts were made to clear the scene.
Personnel of the Ketu Division of the Nigeria Police Force provided security and crowd control during the rescue and evacuation exercise.
The damaged vehicles were later removed from the roadway, leading to the gradual restoration of normal traffic movement within the axis.
Authorities have yet to disclose the exact cause of the accident, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Reacting, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists, particularly operators of commercial and articulated vehicles, to comply with traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy stressing the need for caution and responsible driving to reduce the incidence of road crashes on Lagos roads.
