Two persons were killed in the early hours of Thursday when a Mack truck collided with a Peugeot J5 bus, which subsequently burst into flames at the Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere–J4 corridor in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed the incident in a statement released to journalists by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsi.

Odunsi stated that the crash occurred at about 5:10 a.m. and involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus, whose registration number could not be ascertained.

Four adult males were involved in the accident; two lost their lives, while the remaining two escaped unhurt.

He attributed the crash to route violation and excessive speeding.

“The impact of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, leaving its front section completely burnt,” the statement read.

Odunsi noted that FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced traffic management operations to prevent a gridlock. Traffic was diverted to an alternative carriageway while officials cleared the wreckage from the road to restore the free flow of vehicles.

The FRSC spokesman further disclosed that officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, Ogbere Division, evacuated the bodies of the deceased and deposited them at a nearby mortuary.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the victims and urged motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations.

He warned drivers against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet roads, stressing that reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes in the country.

The Sector Commander reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment campaigns, and prompt rescue operations.

He also advised motorists to maintain safe speeds, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and comply with all traffic rules to prevent avoidable crashes.
