FRSC vows to enforce road safety rules in Kano

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has vowed to strictly enforce road safety rules and regulations, particularly among articulated vehicle drivers, to reduce road crashes in Kano State.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Muhammed Bature, stated this during a town hall meeting held on Monday in Kano.

He explained that the meeting aimed to address the persistent safety and security challenges posed by articulated vehicles in the state.

Bature urged articulated vehicle drivers to adopt responsible driving habits to help curb the rising incidents of road crashes across the state.

He expressed concern over the frequent occurrences of crashes involving tankers and trailers, describing the situation as a critical issue not unique to the state, but prevalent across the country.

“As owners of a large percentage of articulated vehicles in the country, the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has a critical role to play in promoting safety in haulage operations,” he said.

According to him, from basic responsibility of driver training to ensuring proper and regular vehicle maintenance, NARTO was undoubtedly pivotal in upholding safety standards.

Bature said the call had become imperative due to the rising cases of tanker explosions, adding that the Corps strongly condemned the wanton destruction of lives and property.

“All hands must be on deck to stop the carnage; every road user must ensure safety whenever they are on the road,” Bature said.

The sector commander also urged trailers to desist from conveying animals alongside human beings to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

On his part, the Public Relations Officer of NARTO, Aminu Umar, described the meeting as timely and urged the drivers to make good use of it and always drive with care.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other agencies at the meeting include NEMA, SEMA, the fire service, and the police.
